BC/BS @ Park Nicollet

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am just starting out on the lap band journey. I was wondering if anyone out there has Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance and did not have to go through the 6 month doctor supervised weight loss attempt? Of course, I've tried many different times to lose weight, but it was not recorded well in my medical records.

Nice to see a local Minnesota group!

I am just switching to bc/bs from Massachuetts for this year and I am going threw park nicollet/@methodist. They have told me that this BC/BS of MA is very easy to work with but I know that they aren't all the same.

I have really enjoyed every one so far. Practically everyone has had one form of weight lss surgery or another so they all understand what we go through. It makes you feel very comfortable!

Good Luck!

~Amy

Hi! I also have BC/BS (Fed) and have been told there is no 6 mth MD monitored dieting/failure required. I have just began the process. I went to an introductory education seminar Jan. 19th. They said it generally takes 3-4 months to get through all the appointments and actually have the surgery. So far I've only had one appointment to speak with the nurse regarding the procedure, history and physical, etc. and the financial office to discuss insurance coverage and my out of pocket expenses. This week will be busy with Dietitian and Psych appointments. I'm hoping to get through all the hoops in record time and have the procedure by the end of March (wishful thinking :( )

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
