Preparing for My Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi! I'm Julie, and I hope to have Lap Band surgery sometime in December. I've already had the upper GI, EKG, labs, etc. along with appointments with a psychologist and nutritionist. I'm both excited and nervous about this. I hope that this forum will provide me with lots of information and encouragement.

hi Julie!

I'm new as well. I am scheduled for Lap band on nov 24th. I meet with the surgeon tomorrow for my pre-op lecture I guess. hehe. I will then receive my instructions on the liquid diet which Im really eager about so that I can purchase what I need and be prepared. I am an RN and I work 12hr shifts (busy) and need to prepare foods and such. Keep me posted on your surgery date and I will post tomorrow on how my appt went.

I'm scheduled for the 24th too!! They had to change my pre-op app. to the 19th. I started the pre-op diet yesterday, the 10th. It consists of light Protein Drinks, chicken, turkey, egg whites, and tuna. I am still sampling Protein drinks to find the one I can drink without gagging!! I'm waiting for the nectar one's from the Vitamin Shoppe recommended by the nutritionist, and some light Muscle Milk. Hopefully I will like them better! Good luck to you on the 24th!!!!

Hi Julie:

I'm new also. My surgery is scheduled for December 11th. My pre-op is December 2nd. I'm excited and nervous as I get closer to my date. I have found this to be a great group of supportive folks and visit regularly to find out answers to questions I have had. Maybe we can stay in touch and support each other.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
