Hello, Im am presently 4 days out from lap band surgery. I have horrible gas. I had to go back to the hospital the evening i was released because it was so unberrible and made my blood pressure go sky high. I spent the night and after the dr drained the gas and air off my lower stomach with a nasal tube i felt much better. I was allowed to come home yesterday and felt pretty good on the way home. Later in the day and evening the gas pains were back. How long does this last or will they ever go away. Im afraid to even sip on my Water they are so bad. When does it stop or what can i do to help with it.

Hello Ovrplay, seem like you've had them BAD:scared2:. I'm about 2 weeks post-op and although i did not have them that bad i did have the uncomfortable feeling. Mines only lasted maybe 4 or 5 days after surgery and then all of a sudden i started belching out of no where which was a HUGE relief. I did buy the disovle Gas-X strips which did'nt help me :glare:but may help you. other than that anyone will tell you, walk, walk, walk, walk that's about it ! They will go away and you still need to drink to stay hydrated,DO NOT DRINK FROM A STRAW. trust me it may not seem like it right now but everyday you will see that it gets better. better to sleep, better with the pain, better with the gas! Hang in there:thumbup:

Mine were REALLY bad too. I cried everyday. It settled in my shoulder, neck and back. I was bloated so bad it looked like I was pregnant. On the 6th day it got better, the 7th day it was just a dull ache and by the 8th day it was gone. Just hang in there and get movin. The more you move the better you'll feel. I was like you and didn't want to drink. I got dehydrated and was told I had to drink a gallon of pedialyte in 24 hours or risk being admitted to the hospital. How gross!!! So my advice is to drink and get moving. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
