I had a clear liquid diet for 2 weeks and had slimfast (low sugar) chicken, veggie and beef broth and sf jello...u will be hungry trust me but u just have to keep tellin urself its for a good reason and half the time its head hunger...keep drinkin ur shakes and have lots of Water with crystal light in between...my DOC said if u feel faint call them so they can tell u what else to eat..good luck and when u get banded the hunger goes away for 2 weeks and it starts again which is normal til u get ur 1st fill...PLEASE dont cheat or that can cause u not to have ur srugery they want to make sure ur liver shrunk to make the surgery easier...good luck

I tried ocean spray cran-grape (just like crystal lite) 5 cal/suger free. On the go. They were great, and lots of other flavors. They taste just like the juice, but will only 5 cal. Well good luck

I started my pre-op diet two weeks ago today. I was not put on a liquid diet. I am on a 1000 calorie diet with a shake for Breakfast, a small lunch consisting of 3-4 oz of Protein and a salad, a shake for a mid-afternoon snack, a small dinner similar to that of lunch and a shake for a late evening snack. So far I have lost 12 pounds. I guess I am lucky to be on that diet instead of a liquid diet. Hang in there.. it's all for the best! I have one more week and I'm headed for surgery Nov. 11th!

I was on liquids for 2 weeks prior and 2 weeks after surgery. You are going to be hungry, but you get over it. I had a lot of sugar free popcicles, a couple of frozen juice bars and lots of Jello. Those make it seem like you are eating something at least. One of my saviors was Tomato juice, I would heat it up and add a little pepper for taste. You can do it, and you won't believe how much weight you lose just by being on a liquid diet!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
