Calcium......

Recommended Posts

I posted this under nutrition and got no answers so I thought I would try again....If my milk has 35% of my Calcium in a serving and I am drinking 3 servings a day, how much more calcium do I need for supplement? I don't know what 35% translates in to mg's of calcium. Thanks for any info......

Ok...this looks like one of those trick questions that looks so simple and then when you answer you look like a fool because it wasn't as simple as it seemed !!! Does that make sense???:D

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and give it a shot...

If one serving has 35% of your daily needs and you drink 3 servings a day...

35% x 3 servings = 105% of your daily needs.

Is that not right?...Is my brain in super simple mode?? ~Sigh~

And by the way...

With a quick Google search, from what I can tell, the average woman, pre-menapausal, should get about 1200mg a day.

I got the 105% part, but does that equal the 1200mg I need a day. I think, if my friend was correct I still need about an extra 300 -400 mg a day. I am still not 100% sure. I will keep researching it. It was not intended to be a trick question, but can see where it might look that way.

I just did a google search and one glass of milk has 300mg of Calcium.< /p>

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) recommends that women intake 1,000 mg (1g) of calcium daily, and then increase their daily dosage to 1,500 mg (1.5g) post menopause.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
