Level with me re: surgical bandage removal

Recommended Posts

OK, I have those weird clear plastic bandages over my cuts (tagaderm, second skin, whatever they're called). I'm supposed to remove them today, but I'm waiting until tmw because I don't want to have to trek to the emergency room if there is a problem today when I can go to the doctor's office tmw. Anyway, do they hurt to remove? Or is this more like how a regular band-aid feels? One of them is itching like mad and it's driving me crazy.

Did your outer bandages come off yet? The should come off after 2-3 days. If you are talking about the steri-strips which are clear, you are suppsed to let them fall off themselves. Mine were almost off just as I was coming on 2 weeks post-op, which was this past wednesday. Dont take those off unless a doctore told you to. Those are the bandages that keep your incisions closed.

I just had clear bandages like you are talking about. Mine came off no problem and less painful than a bandaid. They looked gross, but that was just dried blood. I just pressed down on the skin and removed gently, not a big deal at all.

good luck!

much less painful than a bandaid!!! I would keep it on though...i had wicked itching, and took off only that one bandage, but due to a roll..lol....one of the insisions is still not healed up yet, (surgury on the 17) It keeps opening up. i wish i kept on the bandage that they gave me. SO...if you have any insisions that are in the middle of the extra roll (like me!) i would not recommend removing it...although boy oh boy did it feel good to remove them!

Also, if you've been showering with them on it makes it easier once they've gotten wet. My strips didn't give me a problem as they were damp and coming off. Also, my sutures are very well closed and I don't see any problems with them trying to open.

i didn't have any suchers at all!!! I had holes in me that healed. There is only one that will not heal like i stated...in the middle of a roll... :-/ but whatever!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
