Day 6 Preop Diet-Not Feeling Well

Recommended Posts

Today is day 6 of my preop diet and am doing liquids only. 5 Optifast shakes, SF Jello, and zero calorie beverages. I've lost 7 pounds but don't feel too good. I'm feeling light headed and nauseous. Not sure how I'm going to last another two weeks at this rate. My surgery is scheduled for 11/10. Any suggestions?

Kathy:

I agree that you should call your doctor. You should not be getting ill feeling.

Best wishes for you to quickly feel better.

Thanks, I have a Bariatric University class with my doctor's office on Monday so I'll talk to them about it then. I think maybe I was going too long in between shakes. I'm feeling better now. Thanks again.

Wow- that is rough. I only had to do a liquid diet for two days prior to my surgery. I just had my surgery on 0ct 16th and I habe to follow a diet of one shake a day, pluse clear Soup, tea, crystaliite, etc. And, believe me , thats driving me nuts. I need food soon and caint wait until thursday nite when i can have 1 meal of soft Protein. That goes for thw week and then it gets better from there.I cant believe you have to do liquid for over 3 weeks? If you are feeling that way, speak to your doctor. Thats not "head hunger", thats real hunger. Good luck

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
