New Bander needs your help - numbness

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 10/21. Today was my day to wake up and think "gosh, I feel pretty good".

Anyway, I have a numbness on my right thigh on the outside. Runs from the knee up to about my butt. I spoke with the nurse on Friday as it had not got away. She said that it may have to do with how I was laying on the operating table............ Feels as if this area is asleep all the time

Anyone else experience this or know what is going on??

Thanks in advance.

I haven't had that experience because of the banding. But anytime you have numbness, nerves are involved. Either being compressed or damaged or something. It might have involved the way you were laying on the table but thigh pain the way you describe it could be a bulging or herniated disc. Do you have any back pain? If it doesn't go away or gets worse see a doctor.

This exact same thing happens to me all the time and I haven't even been banded yet. It's my right leg that is always numb and it's from my butt down to my knee as well. This has been going on for well over a year now, but I just keep ignoring it. I'm very glad you brought this subject up. Maybe we can get some answers!

I have the same thing. This happened to me off and on pre-surgery, if I sat for too long. NOW, it has not gone away at all since my surgery on 11/17. I called the doctor and asked about it and they were not concerned since it had happen me before surgery. Mine is actually starting to cause a little bit of pain though right in the crease at my hip when I am am sitting. I just move my hip as much as possible and massage it. I also have been using a TENS unit on it (electrical stimulation to the muscle). I happened to have one because I sell medical supplies and it's good for circulation issues. I figure if it it doesn't go away next week after I am back at work and moving a lot more, I will call my regular doctor about it. It is constantly numb from the top of my hip (right side) down my thigh about halfway and around from the middle of my butt almost around to my bikini line.

I know exactly what it is. I had that last year on and off mostly on for about a year. I really thought something was wrong with me and I saw a nerve dr. She told me there is a nerve under your stomach that when you sit and lean over as if you were on the computer or desk and especially if you have extra weight to lose it compresses the nerve and you leg feels numb. At first I didn't believe her but, now I am down about 28 pound and I don't sit too long it actually got better. Good luck because I know I even felt the nerve when I sneezed or had to go to the bathroom I actually felt pain down my le-Elisa

I had the exact same experience but on the left side. It definitely occured at the same time as the surgery. I have talked with my doctor -- he has no explaination? It doesn't really bother me other than feeling odd when I am touching the affected area. I am hoping it will resolve over time. Otherwise, I will go to a neurologist.

Sorry no answer but definitely experienced something similar.

Okay - I am still experiencing this problem. For a while it would come in sharp pains - usually when sitting at length or sleeping. Doesn't seem as bad now - I only recognize it when I touch the side of my leg. My doctor doesn't seem concerned since my back is not hurting and I have no other problems. I will admit that it has been somewhat better since losing more weight................

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
