Hello from NW Alabama

Recommended Posts

Hi all of you Alabama Bandsters. My name is Paula and I live in Russellville, AL. I was banded on March 4, 2008 by Dr. William "Jay" Suggs in Decatur. It has been a great process thus far. I have NOT regretted one day of having had the band. To this point, I have lost 70 pounds. I began at 301 and now am 231. My weightloss now has, however, slowed down. I've been in the 230's for several weeks now. I know I probably need to go get a fill, but I will have to wait for a little while longer.

I don't actually post to the Lap Band website very often, but was very interested in getting to meet some of you Alabama Bandsters and keep up with your progress. Feel free to post back and let's build this Alabama Forum.

Have a great day.

Paula

Hi Paula,

I was banded March 13 by Dr. Suggs. He is a great doctor. I have done great-lost 60 lbs. I have about 30-40 more to go. I have had 3 fills and my last one (Sept. 22) about killed me. Couldn't hardly eat for 2 weeks. How many fills have you had? I, too, have hit a plateau. I think that's normal. They say it doesn't last too long before you start losing again. Hope so! I don't get on here too often, but maybe we can keep up with each other a bit.

Hello everyone. My name is also Paula. I live in Huntsville. Dr. Groves of Albertville done my LB. I was banded in May and have lost 39 lbs. (now if you count the same 5 lbs I kept losing and gaining for about 4 weeks I have lost a lot more:blushing:). I wouldn't trade this for anything. I love my band. Good luck everyone on your journey.

Hello................ this is funny- my name is also Paula... lol I am considering lap band and have my seminar scheduled for Dec 16. I heard I have to see a nutritionist and a Physical Therapist. Anyone know why? I have been reading and also seen where some have to see a psychiatrist... I am very excited.. I hope i get approved.

I have a friend who had this done 2 years ago and she is still so excited about this procedure. She is very happy with herself.! thanks

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
