Yet To Be Banded 7/21/05

Recommended Posts

I am very excited about getting banded, but I want to know something; I know that if you don't chew your food you will vomit it back up, but what about when you get the stomach flu? I had a bad case of that back in the spring & it has me wondering - if you have stuff in the lower part of the stomach & it needs to come up, how does it fit thru the small opening?

I vomited the other night and I promise, it came up just fine! :D

It's true, I had a breast biopsy (well, two! one on each breast) on Tuesday and I was terribly sore, and I had some liquid Tylenol w/ Codiene in the med cabinet so I took a dose, then sat up and watched TV for a bit. I got a cup of coffee while waiting for hubby to get home (he went to the hospital to see his mom, yes, it's been THAT kind of a week!) and I got up when he got home, and I got nauseous. Yep, it was eally happening...real vomit, not a food stuck PB kind of thing...I was sick!! And it happened, I vomited. Thankfully, my tummy was empty except for the coffee so no food needed to pass back up the band. If there WAS any food, only the coffee made it back up. I heaved probably 5 times and felt MUCH better, getting the coffee and Codiene out of my tummy, but it was scary. I did liquids the next day, and soft foods from there and I'm fine.

Most folks recommend having some kind of anti-nausea suppository on hand to cut down on the need to vomit during things like the flu. Check with your doc about getting a prescription filled before surgery so you will have it on hand.

By the way, the biopsies came back Benign. Yay!!

Good luck! Congrats on your band date!

Another thought, if your food is very well chewed and you vomit, I'd think it would be a bit easier to come back up through the band...?

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
