Help! I need basic info from step one!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I was banded 1/08. Down a measly 10#. I need to know how much protien we are supposed to be getting. I was getting too much for awhile and was gaining, so I am scared of it. Also, when you are out and even at home what is a good way to tell how much a cup is? Also any one have any advice on how to get some energy. I do not like energy drinks.< /p>

Thanks for any advice

Personally I don't think you can get "too much" Protein. Did you know that you can safely eat 2g per kg of body weight? It works out to something like 280g of Protein for an averaged size guy.

OTOH, if you weren't limiting your carbs or fats and were also eating a lot of protein, then your calorie intake might have been too high. But I'd blame the carbs for that! My surgeon's practice has found that people who don't limit carbs and don't exercise are the ones with the most trouble losing.

I'm supposed to keep protein to 70% of my calories during the losing phase. It works out to 70-90 g of protein for my calorie level (which is probably a lot lower than yours since I don't have a band).

Oh and a cup is the size of a fist. Give or take.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
