Looking for a good doctor

Recommended Posts

Hi, I haven't posted before but I am looking for a good surgeon in the Tracy, California area. (Bay area, Stockton, Modesto) I was hoping someone might have had some experience with someone local if possible. Reading the posts hear has helped me get the courage to try and look into getting banded. Thanks for your time.

I live in Southern California so I can't give you any leads but I can offer some important points. I have been reading a lot of blogs about other people who had surgery and many of the people are having problems with the stitches. My doctor used a special surgical glue that totally closed up all my stitches so I could shower the following day. This also prevented my having to deal with changing any dressings and infections. The type of band used is also a key issue. The "LapBand" is a patented band and costs more but has a better record of performance but some doctors are using other brands to cut costs. I would also say that you may want to interview a few different surgeons before making your final decision. After I narrowed down my selections to two doctors, I had consultations with each of them to see who I liked better since I was going to have to deal with them for at least 2 years.

I hope this helps.

Actually it's not true that the Lap Band has a better record. Realize and Lap Band have a similar record.

As for doctors, check out Laproscopic Associates of SF. They do clinics and support groups in Stockton though they don't have a surgery location there. Their stats are excellent. They report 10-20% better excess weight loss with the band (they use both Realize and Lap Band) than the industry average.

They did my sleeve and I am very happy with them.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
