Just Banded at Derby

Recommended Posts

Finally got banded on Friday, now a bit sore, but back at home. So pleased I read about the wind pains here before I went otherwise woud have been very upset; but was prepared for it so not to bad. Got hiccups yesterday - bl**dy horrendous!

So, heres to the next 4-6weeks of liquids, cant help feeling a little excited at the prospect of finally losing weight, slowly and in a controlled way.

:tongue2:

Thanks Ann, Prof. Larvin did it - what a lovely man. I dont feel any restriction at all - which I understand is right, but Im a bit surprized the burping :tongue2: doesnt seem to be subsiding yet - and seems to be worse after having a drink of water! Anyone else felt this?

Hello Ally,

Glad to hear your operation went well. Yes, Prof. Larvin is a great man. Now you can look forward to your weight loss journey really beginning.

I felt sore for a few days after my operation, but it soon goes. Just try to be patient. You may find that you lose quite a bit of weight quickly, but that slows down.

Did you meet the wonderful Kay Cresswell and Lisa Rickers during your stay? They have been so much help to me during my weight loss.

I did meet Lisa Rickers, she was the lovley nurse who I & the other lady who was also banded at the same time had a chat to, very helpful and informative. Im just a bit surprized that 3 days later Im still burping and have gassy pain, but it is getting less and less with each day. Im trying to walk around and move as much as possible, so that should help. :)

I'm 3 weeks post op and still have the gas pain, ive read it can last a number of weeks, I dont have the burping, mines more of a loud hiccup that i have no control over, i can feel it brewing then out it comes!! Im suprised the swelling hasnt given you any restriction as i am still very restricted.

good luck and welcome to the club!

Kerri

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
