HI! i was just banded on the 24 of sept one week ago yesterday, i think most people have the gas i know i did, my advice take the meds use a heading pad on your shoulder, i layed of the Protein Shakes for the first three days cause i didnt want additional gas and i have been walking alot. i still have a little gas and my shoulder is still bothering me but they say it takes about three weeks to really feel relief from the gas, besides that i'm ready to start my muches on sunday. they told me to sit on the toilet or rocking chair and kinda move around and wiggle tha would help alittle and it has. take it easy and just think how great your gonna feel in a short time. let us know how your feeling. GOD BLESS!

Hi Christi's Mom

I haven't been banded yet but my daughter was last Thursday and my wife was banded two days ago. From what I have observed, there is a three day period of being sore and bloated. Day four seems to be turning the corner and each day after that gets better. I would suggest sticking to the crystal light and not worry about the protien shakes until day four. The clearer the better. If you have intestinal gas, you need to remember that the drugs they use to put you out for surgery bring your intestinal muscles to a halt so gas there moves slllooooowwwllly. Sounds like your on track. Congratulations and I'll be joining you in 27 days!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
