Recommended Posts

Hi Guys

I have been banded a week ago and have some real discomfort around the port site with lots of bruising. Uncomfortable in bed. Anyone else experience this and were you told that this may happen?

Ed

Hi! congrats on getting banded. ive been banded for about 5 weeks now. I know what you mean about discomfort at the port site. yes, it is normal! just take it easy for a while. it will go away... i promise! i couldnt sleep in the bed for a good 2 weeks, i had to lay on the couch kind of at an angle, thats what was most comfortable to me. Anyways- good luck to you! :bolt:

Hi Ed,

Yes you should have some bruising and it will hurt for a few days. Think about it, they cut through your skin to get to your guts, this will take a week or so to heal. It is a small but deep cut so depending on your pain tolerence it will be tender to move these entry points. Put a pillow on your tummy and hold it tight with one hand, put your other hand behind your opposite knee and help yourself up, it will help alot.

Good luck to you hope you feel better soon.

I was banded on 9/12 and I had a lot of bruising for about 2 weeks. I was expecting the bruising, as I bruise very easily. As for pain, I really did not experience any pain, although I was extremely sore for a few days. I am a "side" sleeper, so the first few nights I was not able to sleep on my side. After about 4 or 5 days, I was able to lay on my side with a pillow up against my stomach. Just take it easy getting up - make sure you have something to hold onto when you get out of bed. Good luck to you!!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
