New to the board, surgery in a week

Recommended Posts

I am having my surgery on the 29th and I just started my second week of my liquid diet. I am down 12.5 pounds and have 107.5 to go. I was going to get the realize band but have, at the last minute, opted for the lapband ap system. I liked the realize support but when I saw it inflated and looking a bit triangular I liked the look of the ap better. I am very excited about starting this journey. Currently I am just working out with my Wii Fit which is quite a work out! I have purchase a heart monitor to keep me in zone as per the exercise physiologist at the docs. I also use a really cool pedometer to keep track of my steps. I am a bit underwhelmed doing my post op shopping. I am finding nothing but artifically sweet things and things that are very salty. I am spending this week making broth, Soup and home-made popsicles. Glad to be here and be a part of the September folks

Laura

Welcome to the group, I have to admit the September Samurai are something special. They are always there when you need them.

I was banded on Tuesday and I feel fantastic, mostly. It is fantastic and I am so eagerly looking forward to the future. Debbie

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
