Still on the fence....

Hi everyone,

I know I want to get the lapband but afraid. Which is wierd because I have had two Lipo surgeries and I never felt afraid. My BMI is not "fat" enough for my insurance to pay for it. I have a local doc who does this and is asking $16,000. for everything. Does that sound about right?

I live In orange county, California.

Would love to hear the pros and cons.

If you would do it all over again would you? (honestly)

Thank you

Dawn:smile2:

Yeah, that sounds about right. You should try to find a doctor that will also give you the fills for free with that price. My doctor charges 15k for everything including all dr. visits and fills for a year. I think there is a doctor in Colorado that charges 10 or 11k for everything, but then you have to find a fill center around you. But, it might be work it if you save 5k.

Yes, I'm glad I got the band. I'm very happy with my results so far and I'm still on my journey.

a bmi over 30 is obese, not sure what yours is - but mine was also low enough that insurance wouldn't cover. went self pay (dallas,TX) $15k, your price isn't too off the mark. have ZERO regrets, well ya - wish i did it a bit sooner....good luck to you!!

Hi,

I was banded 9/12/08. I was cash pay 15,600. That includes all preop, postop care and fills for 1 year. I am thrilled with my band, even though I am on a liquid diet for 3 weeks. Its all good. I have lost 12 lbs so far. My BMI was 36.5 not enough for insurance, but I was sick and tired of fighting the obesity demons. So if you really want it, then go for it. I am happy just knowing that I will no longer struggle as I have for the last 15 years. But also understand that this is a complete lifestyle change, so you have to be mentally prepared for it. I researched it for about 2 years. I will be 38 in 9 days and I said to myself ENOUGH! I am very happy. Good Luck to you in your decision whatever it may be!

Yes that is probably why I am afraid. Lifestyle change. Like you though I have struggled with my weight a few years out of high school. (never dieted or had a weight problem) I was a cute size 6. Medial problems and meds I have to take plus a low thyroid all have added up through years. I am tried of struggleing too. If I let it go I could easliy get pass 200 pounds. At 5'4" that is not good. My highest was 206. So now I just have to prepare for the financial part of it and paying monthly payments for a while :-( wah!

But I guess it won't be so hard to make those payments at a size 2 or 125-130 pounds...right? :-P

I will check in with you guys, and keep you posted on my journey.

I am with ya there. I put on weight having surgeries to have babies, hormone therapies etc etc. So even though this really was not in our budget, guess what I don't care. I know that I will be saving lots of money on dinners out with the hubby and groceries in general. So I decided to be selfish and make it all about me. I am 5'5 and had hit 219. I thought I would die. So like you said, when we get to the 130 range, we will forget what payment? hahahah Good Luck!

I'm on the fence but not if i should do it or not my issue is if i should have lap band or bypass. I'm so confused cuz they both have their pros and cons. and i'm just scared about having a band around my stomach i've seen videos of both surgeries and i've read up on both i just cant decide.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
