Medication

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! Just got my surgery date of 10/2 for lap band so I am really excited!!!!!!

I was wondering if anyone has any good technigues for getting pills down?? Crush, split, applesauce????

Also, I am diabetic and the meds:frown: make it hard for me to lose weight. Has anyone had this experience?

Has anyone come off diabetic medication after lapband surgery??

Thanks,

Bev

Please ask your doctor about medications.

Some medications cannot be crushed or cut. In some cases they can give you an liquid alternative.

I split my pills for the first three months (those that could be split) and thereafter I was able to take them in their whole form. You ned to be careful initially until you figure out how your system tolerates pills.

Hello, I am diabetic also and take a lot meds so I have a good trick to get them down. If they can be crushed (check with doctor) mix them with sugar free choc pudding. Choc pudding is yummy! Applesauce does not work as well as far as covering the taste of the bitter ones, and I have some nasty tasting ones.

:thumbup:I had my lapband surgery on Oct. 1,2008. At first I broke my pills in half and took them with yogurt or applesauce. I went back for a fill on Dec. 30 and my doctor said I could start taking my pills whole. I haven't had any problems so far. I am losing slow, but the doctor says I'm doing great and that I have to remember that I don't have that much to lose. I weighed 206 before surgery. I weigh 183 now.Last year I weighed 230. I feel so much better since I've lost some weight. I am also diabetic and have decreased my Lantus insulin from 65 units every morning to 15 units. I have had 2 fills so far. I love my band!:)

Hi Bev! I am diabetic too and the pills are so big. I crush them and put them in sugar free choc. pudding. It helps with the bitter taste. I have come off the Byetta injections and have decreased the amount of Levimere injection. It may not be much yet, but my goal is to get rid of all my shots all together.

Good luck

Gail

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
