Just joined here. Had my initial surgical consult on August 18th. Surgeon said I could probably have the surgery done by end of September. I have most of my test done, have my nutritionist appointment scheduled for tomorrow then just need to see a Mental health specialist and get an EGD and I'm ready to roll.

I've been overweight for about 10 years now, morbidly obese for about 6. I've tried successfully quite a few times to loose weight but it always seems to make it's way back. My father had the lap band done and dropped from a 42 waist to a 34 in 9 months so I decided it was about time for me to go through with it. There has been a lot of Dr. appointments over the last few weeks trying to get everything done. I go to the nutritionist tomorrow, not really sure what to expect.

I had heard some say they have to do a 6 month diet first and some like you that do not. Why are they able to do your so fast without any diet first. Just wondering what to expect from my first visit.

Thanks

It depends on your insurance. I have BCBS Federal, which supposedly is the easiest as far as requirements. I was quite surprised when my Doc told me I could have it so soon.

Good to know, I have B/C B/S PPO, my insurance isn't great when we have to go to the hosptial but I did get a package from them showing that as long as I was a 35 BMI with medical conditions that it would get approved. I hope I do not have to do 6 months, I'm excited and ready to get started thanks to this site.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
