acid reflux

Recommended Posts

I feel like I am at my sweet spot BUT I have had a huge problem with acid reflu for a month. It is only at night but it is awful. Went to regular doc b/c did not think it was band related, put me on Prevacid (max dose) and nothing so finally called my Lapband doc on Friday and they said I was too tight and need to come in on Tuesday for a slight unfill!!!!!!!! i am miserable from not sleeping but scared to go down in band b/c I am doing sooo good right now. AM I the only one that has had this????????

I don't know if you're the only one but if it is acid reflux it is vital that you treat it or you can literally erode your esophagus! If the prevacid didn't help it, go get some taken out of your band. Once your symptoms resolve and you heal, you can get another fill if your doc says ok!

Bexlygal- No you are not the only one! I experienced the same problem. I never had reflux prior to being banded and once I reached what I though to be my sweet-spot, which was 7.1cc's in a 10cc band, everything went haywire. Couldn't rest, hard to catch breath, sore throat, etc. At first I thought it was a sinus infection, got a slight unfill. Nothing. Went to PCP and he immediately said I should get an unfill, even though he recommended a complete unfill, my lapband doc suggested a partial to see how things worked. Took out another .25 and suggested I take Prilosec OTC every morning. That worked wonders, and two weeks later, I was able to get another small fill. Now I'm at 6.5 and have started losing again with increased exercise. My laband doc will only do my fills in increments of .10 or less at this point.

Now I chew 1 pepcid complete in the morning and before bedtime and I'm doing fine. I have an appt. tomorrow and will ask for a teeny-weeny fill, because I think I'm finally at a good place.

Hope you feel better soon, but if you have to get an unfill, don't stress over it because reflux can lead to so many more serious issues. I'd rather be a slow loser than one with an eroded esophagus or throat cancer!!! Take care.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
