Lap band fill gone wrong?

Recommended Posts

I had my first fill today, and the experience was awful. The doctor could not find my port and had to puncture me about 20-25 times until finally it took. It's about 9 hours later, and I've been feeling this awful shooting pain (probably from the punctures) and a bubbly feeling around my port. Can someone please tell me if this is normal? They told me to expect some gas, or feeling of gas, but it's nothing like that. It's right by the puncture wounds.. someone please reply, I'm nervous!!! And can't get a hold of my surgeon/doctor!

Thank you,

Belle

Hi Belle

My doc knows exactly where my port is and how to get to it fast. He is VERY good at it, and of course I would expect him to since he is the doc who placed it.

Anyway, a few weeks ago I had to go for an unfill unexpectedly after struggling from my 2nd fill for two weeks trying to eat food (vomiting and then I woke up at 4 am with pain in my back and stomach, couldn't swallow saliva). Anyway, my surgeon/doctor was in surgery a the time, so I had to go the their other office in another city where I had to see one of their collegues for an unfill. I have never met him before since I've been with the practice. Anyway, he couldn't find my port at all. I kept telling him where my doc put it, but he just couldn't hit the spot. It took him 10 minutes to find it. My husband said that the way he was jamming and wiggling the needle, trying to find the spot, looked very simliar to liposuction! And for my husband to say it looked pretty horrific, it must have been bad. So that doc ended up hitting the sides of my port, just not getting it. So finally after he was able to unfill, I was EXTREMELY sore, tender, and had sharp pain for about a week. He really did a number on me. I see my surgeon next week to start from scratch on the fills, so I will be letting him know what kind of hell he put me through.

But hang in there. I know exactly how u feel.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
