Meeting With My Surgeon

Recommended Posts

I am meeting with my surgeon on Tuesday! I am so excited! What should I expect? Tests? Meeting with a nutritionist? What do you think!?

I would think it will be an informational meeting and then he/she will figure out what tests you need for your insurance approval. If you are self pay then he will move on to the other tests. I would not expect to have any tests on the day of your meeting.

How exciting! I remember my first meeting. I was so excited I was almost sick! I am just waiting to get my surgery date set now and my doc says I SHOULD be banded by the end of the month. Yipee!

Good luck on your journey and be sure to read everything you can read here. There is a lot of good information at this site.

My initial meeting,....they took my vitals, took a thorough health history (including all the meds I'm taking...) and I met with my surgeon to discuss my health and what surgery I wanted. (my surgeon performs several different bariatric procedures; he did NOT pressure me to choose any special one) After reviewing my health history and current status he had me get a barium swallow test(some have to do sleep apnea studies, meet w/cardiologist, etc...all for your own good) and that was it! He answered whatever questions I had...but I had gone to the seminar he led and it was very informative so I didn't have many.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
