Memphis People.....need help

Recommended Posts

Ok I have to get a letter from a doctor before my insurance will approve me to meet with a surgeon. I went to my regular GP (who I like but he was an in a pinch a need a doctor and a friend recc type thing) and he said he won't write me a letter since he thinks it's just a cop out and I can do it myself with diet/exercise. Now I need to find another doctor who will write me a letter....does anyone on here have reccomendations? A doctor they know will write a letter? i am not cheating or anything I am more than 100 lbs. overweight and have hypertension which is what my insurance requires.

What insurance do you have? I have never heard of having to get a letter before hand. My insurance required a letter to be sent in with all of my records prior to possible approval, which I received by letter today.

I don't know if you are still looking, but I highly recommend Dr. Allison Stiles in Memphis. She's a wonderful doctor. She does internal medicine and pediatrics, but I used her for my 6 months of superivised diet and she was wonderful. She's for WLS.

What insurance do you have? Do you see another doctor, my gastroenterologist wrote my letter. My insurance excepted it. I have Blue Cross. I also know someone who got there letter from the The Light Clinic, PC. I'm told they are very professional. Do not listen to your doctor. I have been banded since 11/26/08 and it is hard work. I have only had one small fill so I have been trying to maintain self control. The mental hunger is a struggle. I do not have restriction yet. I have quickly learned it is a process not magic. I'm having to exercise my butt off to maintain. I'm hoping my next fill helps more than than the first. Good Luck to you. Be persistent, you will get there.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
