First Fill Questions re Swelling, PB, etc.

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

Just had my first fill yesterday (2 cc?) and I was wondering about the following:

Swelling: Didnt know I would have swelling... how long does it last and is it with each fill?

food after fill: How long do you wait before you can have solids? I made the mistake of trying a protien bar 6 hours after fill - after 2 bites I was vomiting. With that said, I did keep down Soup and then this morning was able to keep down a protien bar. How long until you had solids after your fill?

Restriction: So obviously if you are vomitting it sounds like that is too tight. When do you know you have found a perfect fill? Is that based on what you eat or what you lose or a combo?

How much can you eat with your Sweet Spot? Seriously, half a meal, a full meal, liquids only? I am so confused with this.

:cursing:

After a fill, there will be swelling (come on, some hard plastic thing is squeezing your innards! Your innards don't like that!) My doc puts me on liquids only for the first 24 hrs, soft stuff (pudding, Jello, strained soups) for another 24 hrs., then I can eat as tolerated.

Be gentle with your tummy after a fill, and take it slow. I had my 4th fill today, so right now I'm just taking small sips out of a bottle of Water. Later tonight I plan on having some Tomato Soup.< /p>

Well it has been two days since my fill and all I can eat is Soup. This morning I tried two bites of scrambled eggs - and up it came in a matter of minutes. Now everything hurts going down besides Water so I have an appt to have a little taken out.

Is this normal or should I be patient and wait through the weekend? The problem now is I dont want to eat at all.......

No, it's too early to have some removed!

Ok, this is what's happened:

- You should stay on liquids for a day or so, then move to mushies for another day or so before eating something solid like a Protein bar! I can't believe your doctor didn't give you instructions!!

- You've now irritated your stoma so you have a double whammy with a new fill + irritation

- Scrambled eggs give LOTS of people trouble. Actually eggs in any form give lots of people trouble. Don't ask me why, they just do. So now you've irritated your irritated stoma again! LOL

- So, just start from scratch....go to liquids ONLY for at least 24 hours. Creamy Soups are ok, smoothies, Protein shakes, things like that. Then move to SMALL bites of mushies and eat very slowly. At the first sign of pain, slow down or go back to liquids for another 24 hours.

- After you've managed mushies alright, then proceed to solids VERY carefully....especially things like meat and raw veggies....chew chew chew then chew some more.

You'll be okay. Let me know how you're doing!

So I caved and went back to my doctor. After liquids for 4+ days, I couldnt take and it I was looking at a long weekend .... This timeI was seeing my regular doctor (there are two and the other did the first fill).

So when he pulled out all of the saline there was actually 3.2 ccs and not 2 - so some was in there already. Anyways, he put back in 2.0 and now I am doing wonderful! I had some fish last night and it was amazing to eat something. On the other hand I lost 5 lbs in 4 days. My doctor was like "oh I see you have lost 5 lbs........since Monday.....???" LOL Um yeah - no food will do that to you. He he he.

Anyways - all better now. Thank you for the info on eggs. I had no idea. I have learned lots of things along the way in the process.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
