I was told in my sheet book that 2-3 days out of surgery i could begin to try applesauce, sugar free pudding and yougurt. Do you think mashed potatoes would fit in this category tooo. I mean puddin and mashed potatoes have about the same consistanxy

IMHO, no, mashed potatoes shouldn't be used. Here's my logic:

  • Yogurt and pudding are basically just a liquid that has been "stiffened" and will become liquid just as soon as it hits your internal heat.
  • Applesauce is mostly Water, both from the juice of the fruit and from the cooking process. There are very little actual solids and they are still mostly Water.< br />
  • Mashed potatoes, while of a similar consistency, have more solids in them. There is simply not a way to cook potatoes long enough for them to be essentially water.

The purpose of such limited solids in your diet is to keep your stomach from contracting as it has to digest them. With the stomach having been stitched over you band, you really want to avoid having your stomach contract and pull on those stitches.

Now, all that being said...EVERY doctor and diet is different. My suggestion would be to ask your doctors office before doing it. Don't try it just because others have been permitted to eat them at this point. I know that it is frustrating, but one more week of sacrifice will seem like nothing at all once you have lost your first post-op 20#! Hang in there

I am in my 3rd week and can have mashed potatoes with Water added instant plain watered down like a liquid. The same with Cream of Wheat, watered down with skim milk. Could use that in the potatoes. I also can have pureed fruits, I got pineapple crushed and ran it through the blender with it's juice. It's a liquid now and mix with cottage cheese, Tomato Soup with Ricotta skim milk cheese is like mock Pasta. Very good

And Butternut squash cooked and them put in the blender with a bit of splenda and some pumpkin Pie spices like a pie. Very good

Careful...Liz was talking about her 3rd DAY. Ask your doctor before you try it Liz. It may be absolutely fine, really, but you should have clearance first, k?

This probably doesn't help much, but my diet allows me yogurt and sf pudding at 7 days post op. I can't have applesauce and mashed potatoes until 15 days post op.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
