Anxiously awaiting Oct 9th

Recommended Posts

I am getting banded on Oct 9th. Going in for preop with the surgeon on Sept 8th. Wish it was all happening tomorrow but after waiting since Feb to go through the whole process, I guess I can wait a while longer. There are so many different results I have read about in the blogs, I wonder what is an average weight loss for say one month???

Do you mean like preop? first month post op? over the long haul?

It REALLY REALLY depends on each person, how high your start weight is, how much you exercise, how motivated you are to follow your surgeon's/nutritionists plans TO THE LETTER, etc. The average is 1-2 pounds a week overall (people can lose indefinitely .. 3 years..whatever it takes).

I've lost 30 pounds preop but know there's no way that will keep up, for example. Some lose 150 the first year, some only lose 40.

You've read different figures because they ARE all different! LOL

I think you kind of have to let that type of mentality go...this is a lifelong committment and it's supposed to come off kind of slowly.

Gastric bypass has huge numbers the first year....lap band can supply some good numbers but it's more "long term". Hope that helps!

I have to remember that it is a tool not a miracle cure. Guess I just am anticipating what could happen. I have been F#%$@t too long! Thanks

It's common to want to know how fast it comes off but I think from what I've read, we'll kind of move away from being obsessed with the scale and with what we "get to eat"

A year or so out we'll just eat healthy and keep on losing. That's what I'm hoping anyway! Good luck to you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
