New...6 month self challenge/pre diet/PCOS...LONG

Recommended Posts

HI! This is my first post, but I have been "lurking" for a few weeks. I decided about a year ago that I wanted to be banded, but I talked myself out of it and thought I would do it on my own instead. So, here I am a year later just a big as before and a year has just "wasted" away!

A month or so ago I told my DH and mom that I wanted to have the surgery and started the process. My doctor started the approval process and I am just waiting to hear from the DR if I am approved to start the next steps.

My insurance requires a 6 month pre diet. So my initial thought was to just take it easy and not lose to much weight. Because I am only 20 lbs or so from a 40 bmi.

Now, after the stinking article on MSN yesterday, my hubby is real nervous. So, the new plan is to give it my all for the six months and if I go past the 40 bmi I will just do it on my own, with his help. He is going to join the gym I have been going to and is going on a diet with me.

No more sugar for this sugar addict. I boxed up my whole stash and put it on freecycle today and it is already gone.

On a side note. I think I may have PCOS. I know many people on the board have it. How do you bring it up to your doctor? Do you just bring it up out of the blue? My symptoms are: bad acne and facial hair (started about a year ago), periods only every 3 months or so, have not gotten pregnant w/o b.c. in 3 years (so am I infertile??? IDK) and of course, the overweight one. Do you think I just grabbed this out of thin air or does it seem legit?

Ok, thanks for reading. I would love any feedback!

I brought the idea up to my gyn years ago. I walked out feeling much more confused, and back about 6 weeks later with a LOT of pressure on my lower right side (I still remember clearly). The dr said I had a cyst. Gave me birth control pills, and ibuprofen. Finally 3 months later the cyst had popped (that was hell). Two months later I got pregnant, lost it at 11 weeks July 12, 2002. I had to have a D&C because I didn't miscarry on my own, and had an infection from loosing the baby. Then he decided I had pcos. I started a drug metformin, and it was better. Not cured. A year later I quit the medication, and went on my way. I was diagnosed as a full blown diabetic ( a risk of PCOS) in August 2004, and put back on metformin. This time I lost 20 pounds, and got pregnant with twins. Since then I've had a hysterectomy, so I'm without periods now. I still have the fuzzy face syndrome. I also have horrible skin tags. (to be removed next month). I am on byetta, another drug shown to help some pcos symptoms. But I still know when I have a cyst. I still know the pain when they burst. And I still have PCOS, but then I still have all this weight. I'll be soon having a lap band.

Just my story. If you're feeling like that may be pcos, what you have... please do talk to your dr. Some insurance companies accept it as a comorbidity.

Teri

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
