Frustrated....beyond belief

Recommended Posts

Hello All;

I have been low carbing for the last two months and doing pretty well averaging a 1-2 pound loss each week. Well TOM came (sorry if TMI) went up 5 lbs, but didn't worry and sure enough 1 week later I was down the same 5 lbs. Now here is the extremely frustrating part......

1 1/2 weeks later the scale has not budged. I have followed the low carb diet to the T, the ketosis stick can't get any darker, I drink my 8 glasses of Water faithfully and I have upped my aerobic exercise from 30 minutes a day to 60. What is going on. I know me and when disappointment sets in, depression is not far behind. I am trying my best to hold on, but I am truly doing all that I can do at this point to loose and my body is not cooperating. I still have quite a ways to go on my weight loss journey and to be stalled so far in the beginning really, really hurts.

HELP!!!!!!!!!

HELP!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like you have hit PLATEAU.

In anycase just continue waht you are doing and ina few weeks the scale will start moving again. Tis is your body's way of saying hold on. You can also trick your body into breaking a plateau. Change the type of exersize you do or add 15 to 20 minutes on to what you are already doing.

Do a search on the forum for breaking threw plateaus. Keep going you are doing wonderful. I have not lost a darn thing in 3 weeks so I am with you.

the weightloss will start again if you continue to do what you are doing.;:wink2:

TP78,

Thank you for your response. I read all about plateaus I just didn't expect to hit one so early on. This morning I got on the scale and I'm up 2 lbs. I was totally disgusted.

I barely eat 1000 calories a day. I exercise 30 minutes in the morning, 30 minutes in the evening and consistently drink my 8 glasses of Water.

While this may not seem extreme to some, for me it is. I used to think exercise was a curse word and Pepsi was my best friend. I also used to super size any and everything I ate, so for me this has been a major life change. When I look at my scale and it says I need to eat 2700 calories to maintain my body weight and at the end of the day my caloric intake is only 970 and I'm still not losing.....What is going on?

I apologize for ranting, but I'm so confused.

I have been on a plateau now for five weeks! I lost 50 or so pounds pre and one week post surgery, and then NOTHING! An hour of aerobics daily (brisk walking, some jogging), 1000 calories or less a day (its all I can manage to get down) and two fills later, and not a pound! I am trying to stay positive. Without the band, I could have lost more it seems. grrrrr

Vary what you are doing. Perhaps if you up your calories to 1200 for a few days that can be just the kick start you need. Changing the types of food that you eat also really helps. You just need to trick it into moving again. Don't worry too much. If you are doing the right things, it will definitely start moving again.

Early in the process we all hit plateaus. Your body just needs a little time to adjust to changes.

No worries on the ranting we all do it  And you are allowed to be frustrated.

How is your restriction? I read a few of your other posts and your last was in May right?

Maybe its time for another fill. Also you may want to try doing what HeatherO said up your calories a bit. eating to few calories can sometimes completely stall weightloss.

I have about the same amount left to lose like you. SO we are in the same boat. Ok also how is your inch loss. Since the scale has so just not been my friend the last few weeks I have been measuring myself. And I have lost inches but no weight. So what could be happening to is you are replacing fat with muscle and muscle weight more then fat. Try measuring yourself once a week and see what you lose. ALSO STAY OFF THE SCALE FOR A FEW DAYS IT SEEMS TO BE DRIVING YOU NUTS. MY HUBBY HID MY SCALE. YOU HAVE LOST WHAT 41 POUNDS with 64 to go so you have lost half of your weight which IS AWESOME you should be very happy you are already healthier. Keep your head up. It takes time to lose. Please feel free to message me if you need to rant. Or just someone to talk to.

Trish

The band restricts calories going in for the most part, if you are eating less than 1k calories & exercising.. if you didn't have the band.. how would you be losing quicker?

I really just mean, in the past 30 years of dieting I have never spent this amount of time on this stubborn of a plateau... then again, I am much older now. Just really complaining, sorry about that.

Without the band I would not be able to restrict my caloric intake.

It's really not about how quickly I lose, but just that I lose. I am such a results based person it's scary.

What I decided to do is this, I had a cheat day where I brought my calories all the way up to 1500 and I didn't exercise. I figured if that didn't break the plateau, it would at least give me a reason to why I could possible gain. Kind of screwed up reasoning, but it worked for me. Next, I put away the scale and know I'm right back on track, eating and exercising and we'll see how it goes from here.

I did get the measuring tape out and I have lost a few inches from my waist. That discovery did a lot for my frustration (thanks Trish). I am determined to succeed at being healthy and losing this weight and I am very grateful to have found such a wonderful support system here.

Thank you all. Trish I will definately be taking you up on your offer and feel free to do the same.

Ditto. Thanks Donna. Very informative link. I really had to nod my head in agreement when I read the part about giving your mind & body a rest from dieting. This may not be for everybody but it's definitely what I needed. I did not go hog wild I just relaxed a little and gave the scale some time off. I feel better mentally and physically. I believe that my weight loss is still an ongoing process, even if the scale doesn't always show it.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
