LapBand placed too high?

Recommended Posts

I am curious if anyone has had this problem. That the band was placed too high so that you ended up with basically a stricture instead of a small pouch? And if so, how was this fixed or were you able to even fix it?:)

Hi

My GI doc says my band is to high but my Band Doc say's it is just right. Unfortunatly I do not have any fill in my band for 2 years now due to such horrible reflux but the good thing is I do have retriction and am able to eat just alot less depending what it is.. Are you have problems??

I am not sure. I have been banded since Feb 28th 2007. And really have only had a 20# weight loss since then. I have had a fill that felt good for a very short time. Then it was that I felt restriction all the time and started to reallly watch what I ate. All I was eating was soft foods that would go through the band. Yogurt, cheese, cottage cheese, salad for some reason has always gone down easy. And was in the end taking in higher calories and was just maintaining for months. So I went in and they took some out. That seems to have helped and then again had no restriction so again went in and had more put in. And again was too tight, lost 7# in one week by not getting anything down so had it let out again some. I can feel restriction, gagging/stuck if I eat the wrong things such as bread. But now again, after they let some out I either feel after one bite that I am stuck, or else I can eat anything I want quantity does not matter. No real consistency. So was thinking, maybe it is too high. I do not have any reflux issues though.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
