I see Dr. Brian Lahmann and Dr. Joyce at Silver Cross Hospital. I love the entire group there, they are all very caring and sweet. ~Mandy

They are not in my insurance group. How much is a fill there, and do they charge a fee for the first visit. A few places I called had a 400.00 fee and then a 250.00 fill fee. The fill fee I understand, but the get to know me fee I just can't budget in. Know what I mean? This is frustrating. Thank you, Mandy.

Is silver cross hospital on the insurance plan? They bill my fills through the hospital and it gets paid 100%. They do take my insurance but it is easier to get paid as a hospital then as a doctors office I guess. All of my fills are done under floroscopy (sp?) so they are done in the hospital. If you go out of network do they pay at a lower benefit level? I know that if I go out of network I have to pay 20% and my co-pay. I don't know how or what the fee schedual is for them, but I know that they are reasonable and see a bunch of Horgan's patients. It might be worth checking into. ~Mandy

Hi all!

I am in Indiana and in the process of researching the surgery and doctors. Where is Dr Pleatman located? What is the cost through him? I am hoping to find a good doc with lot's of experience to do the surgery and also be nearby for the aftercare. I will be self pay.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
