Could it happen??

Hi all... just had a thought... can it ever happen that you get your band filled as much as it can hold & you still don't have restriction??

I currently have 7cc in my 10cc band from just my first fill because my surgeon primed the band with 5cc during surgery. I had no restriction after 3 weeks healing so have just had another 2ccs put in... I definitely have some restriction now.. but i would imagine i still have a way to go with restriction yet.

I'm not saying I will be in this position but I just wondered if anyone has been? Maybe your stomach can shrink so small that the band is just too big!

I have the APS Small 10cc band!

Hi there,

Yes, it is POSSIBLE, but highly UNLIKELY that you will be at max capacity and not yet achieved full restriction. According to my doctor, all bands can be filled over the maximum capacity. I have the original Inamed 10cm/4cc fill capacity lapband system and I am currently filled 1cc over the limit. After changing doctors twice and 8 fills later, I finally have good restriction after 17 months of being banded. I was beginning to think I would NEVER achieve good restriction, but it took some time. I feel like I could go a little bit tighter, but if I did that, I would only be able to tolerate liquids...and that doesn't sound fun at all.

I have also been kind of worried that running out of adjustment before good restriction could happen. I am at 11cc's of a 14cc band after only three fills. For a month and a half after sugery restriction was good but since then I only feel restriction for about a day after a fill and then it's like I don't have the band. Okay, that is a slight exageration. I cannot eat as much as I could before banding but I only want to be able to eat about a cupfull not 3+. I was also told at my last fill that they could go beyond the limit a little. I wonder how much a little is.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
