hi all

i have an incision very high up, which is the one that has caused the most discomfort over the last week, however now i have my dressings off i can see that it is bruised, this isnt bothering me as i bruise easily. what is bothering me is that the actual incision is completly black and shiny. im not due to see the nurse again for 2 weeks, however i was wondering if any one else has experienced this yet?

my bandages havent come off yet. but i would suggest you call the nurse in the morning and ask her if it is normal. i do know that the insion where i have my port is the one that seeped some, the others nothing really.

thank you

i have asked the nurse just now and she says it is fine and not to worry about it as its bruising. and just to keep it clean and dry. it is not from the port site, it is from one of the small incisions.

hope you are feeling ok

i cant see under bandaids if i am brused up, but nothing around the bandaid. my right arm is brused a bit from the bloodpressure cuff, but i have big arms so was expecting it.

i thought i was going to bruise alot more then i have, but apart from the one right at the top, none of them are bruised and they are quite hard to see in the picture i took of them last night!

the first shower i got after the stitiches came out was the best one i have ever had!!!!!!

I am going to say to my surgeon (If I am still with it enough) in the theatre just before I go under, please be gentle with me, I don't know if it will have an effect but I figure hey if I say to him right before the surgery he won't hopefully forget it in a hurry :wink2: Some are a little rougher than others!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
