HELP!! Surgery on Tuesday and I caught a COLD!!!

Recommended Posts

Do you think my surgery will be cancelled? Anyone go through this prior to their surgery date?

What started out this week as a bout of allergies, (it has been really windy here in AZ the past week - Monsoon season) scratchy throat, itchy, watery eyes and a little sneezing has turned into a major hack fest, (my 5 yr old son calls coughing, "hacking up a hairball" LOL) which in turn has made me have to use my inhaler........if I want to breath at all, that is.

JEEEEEEEEZ! I swear, I worked so hard to lose the weight that they told me to before surgery, I am now ready mentally also for the surgery and now my body wants is conspiring against me - catching a cold AND having AF come to town.....all at the same time.......Ohhh, yes, I have all the symptoms of right before AF comes to visit.......I am zity (face broke out), crampy, GRUMPY, achy and afraid they will cancel my surgery. Of course, sneezing, coughing and wheezing like a drunken rhinocerous doesnt make life any easier right now.......... <<<sigh>>>

Ok, I am done with my whining............sniff............please let me know if any of you have had your surgery cancelled due to a cold.

Thanks and pleeeeeeease send HEALTH VIBES my way, I dunno if I can take it if surgery were postponed.

Judie

I was told that I needed to be as healthy as I can be before surgery. you don't want your body fighting something and you have a ton of healing to do with the band. Your surgeon will make the decison if you are healthy enough to do surgery. In the meantime, I would run to the drugstore and get some of that Ziacam stuff. It is supposed to make cold shorter. Good luck.

I got sick a few days before my surgery too. I too was scared the doc would cancel; also scared he wouldn't and I would die on the table or something :-)

Doctor didn't cancel, nor did I die. The only bad thing was that it REALLY hurts to cough after the surgery. I think my cough made my healing a lot harder. Just have to weigh the pros and cons. Probably if you aren't coughing constantlly like I was it won't be bad. Good luck and take special care of yourself between now and then to get well soon!

If you don't have a fever your chances are good that they will go ahead on Tues. Use your inhalers to help break up the stuff that has settled in your chest and keep you fingers crossed. I am scheduled for Tuesday morning also. We'll have to keep up with each other once we get back to the computers. Good Luck,

Oh and get a pillow to put against your belly when you cough, someone posted on here that it helps make it less painful!

You poor thing.

My Surgery is next Tuesday aswell and I caught a cold a week ago, I stayed home from work for 2 days, and just slept and stayed in bed. I managed to get rid of it in 4 days.

Rest is the best thing you can get right now.

Also get some cold and flu medication to knock this flu on the head, keep up the vitimin c etc aswell.

Best of luck.

I am feeling better today, still sneezy but alot less wheezy. Thankfully not coughing and no fever. Trying to rest, not so easy with little ones......I am sure you guys know how that goes. :)

I appreciate the replies and good wishes! I will let you know how my surgery goes on Tuesday.........

Take good care,

Judie

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
