NJ local group new member introduction

Recommended Posts

Good morning all! I just wanted to introduce myself to the group. My name is Julie, I live near Princeton, and I'm 48 years old. I'm getting banded on August 12th (one week from today!) by Dr Nusbaum in Livingston NJ. I have about 70 or so pounds to lose. I am looking forward to "meeting" all of you and supporting you in whatever way I can! Thanks for being here.

Hi Julie,

Good Luck tomorrow! I see Dr. Nusbaum today for my 1 week check up. I was banded on the 5th. So far (on my scale) I lost 11 pounds. You'll do great. The first few days are sore but now I am sleeping better and moving around better.

Dotem THANK YOU so much for your warm wishes! I am at work now; on the liquid diet today for pre op; and very nervous! Your post, and everyone's posts on here, helped me so much.

I'm in West Long Branch so not that far from you guys. Would love to get together with you all but I'm leaving for the Outer Banks on Saturday (woohoo I can't wait lol).

I have a scheduled surgery date of November 24th and I am so looking forward to it. I'm very excited but yet nervous as well. It's funny, I had my gallbladder out like 13 years ago and didn't think twice about going in for surgery but this time is a little different. I was widowed 6 1/2 years ago so I'm the only parent my kids have (they are 15 and 13) so of course I can't help but think "what if......" I believe everythiing will go fine but it's still in the back of my mind. I enjoy coming on and reading all the positive support you get on this site and even some negative comments, it all is very informative. November cannot come soon enough

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
