Hi there

I am waiting for my appt letter to go and see my consultant (to see if I can be banded). I am in my 40's and would love a band buddy, just some one to talk to about my hopes/fears etc!

I live in West Scotland and would like David Galloway to do my op.

If anyone would like to chat to me about their experiences and give me some moral support along the way I would really appreciate it and I'll send my email addy!

I am glad I found this board, especially the UK section an I am reading through just about everything I can  There are some huge success stories out there:thumbup:

Welcome to the forum Arran.

You're at an exciting time with a lot to look forward to. You'll find great support here, not just in the UK forum. When you see your consultant, ask any questions you may have, no matter how strange or silly they may seem to be. Are you going NHS or private?

Good luck with your new weight loss journey.

Hi Steve

Thanks for the reply, I have read some of your posts and you are doing so well!!!!!!!!!

I am going via the private route. I could poss have been funded through NHS but would have taken ages and I had some savings.

I am just waiting on results of some blood tests my GP did then fingers x will get appt through from consultant

How are u doing Steve?

Hi Arran,

I'm doing fine thanks. I've hit a bit of a plateau with my weight loss at the moment, but am still losing. My targets are in sight now, which is very exciting. I gave myself a year to lose the weight and I think I'm on schedule for that. I've been out all day helping someone to move and I could go up and down stairs, lift boxes and maintain a conversation!! That represents a big improvement for me.

Good luck when you see your consultant.

Hiya.

Went private - couldn't wait any longer. Yes- I was seen at the Nuffield and has surgery 3 weeks after my first consultation. I could've had it done sooner, but I had to organise time of work etc.

Mr Galloway is very nice. He's realistic and explains the pros and cons. But it didn't deter me.

I've lost more than 18lbs now, I haven't weighed myself in about 2 weeks, but I've lost more than that - i'm sure. So its working great. Go for my first fill on Wednesday though so I'm a bit nervous about that.

Straight after the op, it was really hard to get anything down for the first week, then it eased off. There are still things that I struggle with but i;m managing to eat a bit more. That'll change after Wednesday though!!!!!

Good luck with everything. This site is great. There's loads of info on the American section too, although things are slightly different over there.

Give me a shout anytime.

Thanks for that, I appreciate it. Those images do tell a story don't they? It won't be long until you start taking pictures of your weight loss, which I'm sure will be great.

Take care,

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!
