Stomach's growling but I feel restriction...what's going on?

Recommended Posts

Ok, so it's been 48 hours since my banding..today, I graduated to Tomato Soup and I was so excited...but right now, my stomach is growling and I feel like I have something stuck in my chest...Can I already be feeling restriction with liquids? Do you think the Tomato Soup is too thick? How do I get rid of the feeling? I feel the gas pains all over and have taken Mylanta but if the tomato soup isn't going down how is anything else? Am I gonna have to vomit to get it up or will everything eventually go down? I'm miserable...please help!

Nikole.. I had Tomato Soup yesterday too..and was banded on 07/28/08. Some of the things you described were the same for me. I just let it all work its way down & made a mental note for next time. Today, I had Cream of chicken Soup with 1% Milk. I drank much slower this time.. nothing a half hour prior or after.. and I felt much better. My stomach has been growling too, but for some odd reason, it's not the same sensation I had post-surgery where I felt the need to go to the kitchen & eat to make it go away. My thoughts are that the gas is still doing crazy stuff to my body too!

I'm interested to see what others post! Good Luck!

I was allowed to have cream Soups my first week post-op. My doctor told me the stomach growling doesn't mean hunger, it is the stomach adjusting to the band. I also always have a lot of stomach growling during the first 8 hours or so after a fill.... same thing.

If anything you eat is bothering you though, you should back off and go to something lighter.

It sounds like Tomato Soup is to thick for your tummy to handle at this point. Remember to take very small sip and wait several minutes before taking another one. You might only be able to handle about a tablespoon of liquid at this time becaue of the swelling.

The growling is normal. I'm 14 days post op and still have it going on but it's not because I'm hungry.

Hi! We were banded on the same day! I wanted to find some others around the forum to discuss all that is going on with my body. I am having some stomach "hiccups" occassionally. It is creating some anxiety in me. It makes it difficult to sleep at night. I also have some back pain. I am not sure if that reason is only because I do not have the best mattress in the world or what. I am hoping it is not a kidney infection or anything of that matter.

I am only on liquids still. no creamy Soups until next week according to my doctor. Of course that has caused me to feel pretty sluggish at the moment. Got any ideas to help boost some energy?

Maybe you should try taking in half the amount of Soup you were trying to get down. I couldn't do Tomato Soup. I tried it once and it was just too acidic for me. Kept feeling like I was going to reflux.

I was banded on June 30th and my stomach growls almost all the time, but I am not hungry. From what I have read recently, alot of people seem to be experiencing a great deal of gas, even after several weeks post-op. This is more than likely due to the high Protein diet or maybe new food intolerances. Don't know, but it doesn't correlate with being hungry and it isn't left over surgical gas either.

Best wishes everyone,

Stephanie

My stomach growled so loudly the first week after surgery it could be heard across the room! Try not to vomit that is not good for your band. Try to thin the soup up before eating it. It may go down easier this way.

Nikole

I was told after my surgery to be on Clear Liquids for 3 to 4 days then move onto full liquids. The tomato soup is just probably to thick for you roght now.Do not throw up... You just had surgery you do not want to rip and stiches. Just walk it off it will go down.

LOL my stomach never used to growl now it does ALL the time but it is really loud after a fill. They have gas X strips now. They melt on your tounge. That will help a lot with the gas and you do not have to swollow it..

I hope you feel better.

Everyone's Dr.'s instructions are very different. I am like you and could have cream based Soups on Day 2 going forward. I'm not a Tomato Soup fan, but what you may want to do is cook it w/more liquid than normal, put it in a shot glass (if you have one) and sip on it very slowly. For 5 days after surgery I couldn't get anything more than one shot glass full at a time. I'm by NO means telling you to take a shot the old fashioned way. LOL! Just sip on it. It's a small portion and that helped me control it very well. It will get better and I graduated from the shot glass method after about one week. I was banded 7/2.

Hope this helps and best wishes for a speedy recovery!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
