Two months after surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

My name is Barbara and I hail from the Big Apple; NY :). Just wanted to say hello and to say that I am very excited and pleased to find this site. Surgery was 5/29/08; lost 14 lbs in 6 days; had my first fill 7/2/08 and so far so good. Don't have a scale at home but my clothes are quite lose to say the least. Have gotten very motivated and encouraged from you guys and I wish you all much success:thumbs_up:!

Welcome Barbara! I'm glad you found the site too. You will find a great deal of support and information here. Come back often, post, reply and read, read and read some more! This sight has been a real blessing for me in preparing for my surgery and what to expect post-op, recipes and things that I would never think to ask my doctor...I found it here. All the best to you! Keep up the good work.

Does anyone have a problem with gum or drinking straws now months after your surgery?

My doc said absolutely no straws, and no chewing gum...ever. He said that both just make you swallow air and that stretches your pouch. He said if you are going to ignore his advice and stretch your pouch, then there's no point in making the pouch in the first place. Ouch, harsh, but point taken!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
