Support group

Recommended Posts

I have been banded since 7/01/08. I have a friend from Louisiana, where I live, that went to Houston to have her band last Monday. She tells me that her dr wants her to pay $200 to go to support meetings, and she would have to travel about 75 miles to go there. Evidently, she wasn't told this before the surgery.

Does anyone else pay for their meetings? Do you think she could go with me to mine? Even if my dr would charge her she would at least be near home? As far as I know mine is free. Unless the cost is included in my bill to Insurance. The hospital where I had it has a meeting once a month and so does my dr.

Thanks for any help.

Honestly, that does not sound right..........I am getting banded on Aug. 5 and that includes everything for life. Physical Therapy (personal trainer for a limited amount of time), support groups for the life of the band, and if anything should ever go wrong with my band he will fix it for free.......that is a sweet deal!! If you are wondering (Dr. Nick Nicholson, Plano)..........I would just take her with you, $200 is insane.

My doctor's support meetings are free. In fact they are open to the general public. Your friend's arrangements sound way off base to me.

I will have to pay a $200 program fee when I schedule my surgery. I was not told it was for the support meetings though. Not sure what it is for actually..

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
