I'm almost ready - finally!

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm Mary from North Carolina. It has been a long road for me. I started the process in March and only just got approved by BC/CS after jumping through many hoops. This week I had my labs at the hospital. I have an appointment with the doctor next week and hope I will know the big date then. I teach school, so I am anxious to finally get this done before I have to report on August 19th. I know I will need to be on liquids for 2 weeks prior to shrink my liver. I would especially like to hear from someone from my age group (late 50's to early 60's) and see how you have fared.

Hi Mary,

You are lucky that things have happened so quickly. I started the process last August, and I just finally had surgery this week. I too have BCBS--but in Alabama. I am also a teacher and have to be back at work on August 4th. This is day 4, and I am still pretty miserable. I'm not in pain, but I am weak and hungry. I have moments of regret, but I definitely feel like I have done the right thing. I just want to get through the next 10 days until I can eat mushy foods. All I can think about is food.< /p>

Well, that makes me feel about about the long wait. Maybe 5 months is not so bad after all. I hope things get better for you quickly and you can get on to the mushy food!!

Good luck,

MaryD

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
