Dr Appointment help

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled for my first Dr appointment tomorrow and I am a bit nervous. My primary care Dr wrote a letter recommending me for the surgery.

What kind of questions do I ask the Dr? What is he sees no need in me having the surgery? I am 5"9" and I weigh 292 lbs and my BMI is 41 or 42.

I have to say that I am so nervous. There have been several people that I work with that have had the surgery and the insurance has paid for it.

Yeah, you're fine. If you've had this BMI for at least 5 years, you should be fine.. (At least 35 BMI). Don't be nervous. I basically went in knowing my insurance covered it and said "Alright, when do we get started, I am covered" and the doctor was shocked I had already gone that far. I asked about what kind of band he used, does he put a starter fill in there, what are his patients success rates, and how aggressive he is on fills. Some doctors are jerks and won't give fills for months or if you even lose 2 pounds a month they still wont' fill you, which is ridiculous. Do searches on here for your doctors name and see how his patients feel about him. My friend used my doctor and I had her experience to tell me what I needed to know. He insists on getting fills every 14-30 days until you reach perfect restriction.. It took me 5 fills to reach that and I've had to cancel my last two appointments because I was at that sweetspot. Good luck, and dont' be nervous. He'll most likely just weigh you and talk about the procedure.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
