PCOS - Banding Benefits

Recommended Posts

Hello All, I'm scheduled for banding on July 27th at MIBC in Chicago by Dr. Horgan. I have PCOS and I am wondering if any of you existing banders with PCOS could share the benefits you've experienced since your procedure?

I hope there are some, no I'm sure there has to be! I know that the weight loss is a positive benefit of course, but have your symptoms linked to PCOS diminished, i.e. acne, irregular cycle, etc.? Also has your insulin spiking decreased? I'm just curious.

Thanks.

Hi! I too have PCOS. I"m being banded in June so I don't know personally the benefits of the band and PCOS yet. I'll be sure to post when I do. Several people I've met that have PCOS and the band say nothing but good things! Hopefully it will work for us too!

good luck!

Hi Lynn! I have PCOS, with all the usual symptoms (IR, acne, absent periods, excess hair ect)

I was banded on Feb 22 of this year, and I have had 2 natural cycles since my surgery! My acne is a lot better, it is only really a problem when AF is in town, I am hoping that my chin hair will slow down some time soon, but I expect that it will with time, and weight loss. I have lost 27kg (about 59 pounds) so far, with another 20kg (44 pounds) to go.

Good luck!

Well, the jury is out for me yet. I've been banded for 3 months and just got my first fill last week.

However, my asthma has improved so dramatically!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
