calories and you!

I would like to know how many calories everyone is taking in daily. How many you aim for and how many you really get in. Also put in some info as to how far along you are with your lap band .

Myself I was banded may 21st 2008 and i do not have a fill yet. Im eating 1 cup of food and still losing weight thus no fill. I can eat pretty much any food with no issues , and i try to keep the calories under 1,000 but my new goal is 500 if i can.

I don't count calories - I count Protein grams and carbs. My doctor and dietician put me on a high protein/low carb diet - 90 percent of the food I eat per day is Protein - 10 percent is complex carbs. For all practical purposes on this diet, you aren't hungry because you can snack on something that is protein. Calories are just not an issue.

I was banded on June 4th and had my first fill July 9th - yesterday. At about week 3 I started to have trouble with appetite. My fill wasn't determined by whether I was losing weight but my appetite and a loosening of the band due to weight loss. After surgery, I was instructed to eat between 2-4 ounces per meal. At about 4 weeks, I could eat about 6 ounces before feeling full - never got to the point where I could eat 8 ounces.

Actually, the 1000 calories per day is probably healthy. But, I suspect that I eat less when my band is properly filled. I may not be able to eat 500 calories today which is not a problem as I have no appetite.

Thanks for the info! My doc said if im eating about 1 cup of good food and still losing weight he was not worried. Its funny how every doc is different but what they put in us is all the same. I also make sure i get the Protein as much as i can. Gl with your band!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
