Newbie to the Sixties Group

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

Although I have posted to the Lap-band forum before, this is my first to this group. I am being banded on July 14th and although a bit nervous, I am extremely excited and ready to get onto my new life. I am only sorry I didn't get this done many years earlier. I just hope it works ok for me and that I continue to lose all this weight so that I can finally travel again without being miserable. I have so many problems with my legs and feet due to Neuropathy and my being overweight. My obesity has really caused numerous health issues that will hopefully change for the better once I lose this weight. I need all the support I can get to help me stick to my diets. I have been doing well on this 14 day liquid diet pre-op. I must admit I did cheat one meal by have some grilled chicken which was wonderful. There wasn't much of it (in the past, it would have been only enough for a taste) but still cheating. I know that the Neuropathy will always be with me, but the sleep apnea as well as so many other problems will hopefully taper off or go away altogether once I lose most of this weight. Getting the surgery done at Temple, TX. Anyone else from the area? OH yes, another question unrelated to Lap-bands....Sharon, is that a Bischon puppy in the picture you have on your info? I have one also.

Hi Leelee, My puppie is half bischon and half maltese. She is 18 mos old. weighs 8 pounds and is a sweetheart but was hard to potty train and still has accidents. I saw a bischon boy puppy a few weeks ago and wanted to scoop him up and take him home. He was so cute! Got any pictures?

I know how you feel when you see another Bischon, they are adorable, but then I love most pups. My dog Chloe is almost 6 years old now and although she is that old, if left too long in the house alone, she will piddle on the bathroom mat. Sometimes I do believe she does that just because she is angry at us for leaving her at home. I have tons of pictures but being the computer illiterate that I am, I haven't a clue as to how to send one. Perhaps I can get my grandson to show me how next time he is available. Will find out in a short while the time for my surgery on Monday...getting anxious now. I went to the store today to stock up on plenty of the liquid stuff for my diet after surgery. I have been on a liquid diet since June 30th but at least you can have salad with that one. Wish I had someone to talk to on a daily basis who is going through this same thing. It is so hard to watch everyone else eat the foods I love and to try to distinguish between head hunger and true hunger, etc., etc. Do you understand what I mean? Sometimes I just long for a hamburger, but then I remind myself how much this surgery means to my health and the sacrifices I must make to make it work, yet that hamburger sure sounds so inviting and then wouldn't you know it, a commercial will come on television that shows one of those luscious ones from a great hamburger joint. LOL! HOW CRUEL IS THAT? Jodi

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
