Hello Vicky

I have spent the last month or so trying to find the right place to have my surgery - it's really confusing isn't it? There are so many places. There is lots of advice available on here though. I am still pre op but have decided to go with streamline at chichester hospital as it's good value, near me and I have had good feedback from others who have been there. I have also been to see the consultant at Healthier weight centres and was very impressed - they also have a good reputation but are pricey. Where are you in the country? For me it was important to find somewhere nearby as the aftercare is very important with a band - although some people have aftercare in the uk and surgery abroad, so that can work too.

take care

Katie

Hi Katie

I've got my surgery booked with WGA, I think it's a minefield as WGA has very mixed reviews on here, but the cost is what has made me decide to go with them, I wish it wasn't like that but I can't afford the extra £3000 for aftercare, but need the surgery for my own sanity!! From my consultation they seemed good though and I was happy with my surgeon. I have researed surgery for the last 4mths, I hope you find someone you feel happy with!!!

Good Luck, Happy Searching!!

Thanks Kerri - it must feel good to know you are all booked up and ready to go. I'm looking forward to that - hopefully just a week or so and I'll have a date!

Luckily the chichester surgery & one year aftercare basic package is £5100 so a bit less than lots of private hospitals, so that's why I reckon I will go with them. I'm sure lots of people have had good experiences with WGA, and if you are happy with them so far that's a really good sign.

Good luck

Katie

Hi Katie

The surgery and 1yr aftercare for £5100 is a very good price, you will need the aftercare...! Its very easy to get so stuck on just getting the band fitted, but its actually the aftercare/fills that actually make us lose weight. I too went with WGA and all the weight i have lost is down the diet and not the band, so like i said aftercare is very important.

Kerri be prepared to chase WGA after your surgery cause they are excellent up to the point of surgery its after that they are very poor. Where are you going to have your surgery ..?

Debbie

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
