Hello all. I was banded on the 1st! I think that I am doing pretty good, I did not need any pain medication in the recovery room and I went home the same day. After the anesthesia wore off, I was very alert and only sore, but no real pain. I think the worst part of the day was going to radiology and drinking the contrast stuff. It was by far the worst thing I have ever tasted in my whole life! However, its a tiny price to pay for the benefits of the band. I was sore when I got home and took a nap after taking a little bit of liquid lortab. That stuff rocks my socks! Yesterday I got up and felt pretty good and went to go see a matinee at the movie theater. We saw Hancock, which was a pretty good movie. I think that the most annoying pain is the gas pain, which is not that bad, but still annoying as it feels like it is deep in my left shoulder. Today however, its not there! I know this sounds gross and silly but the first time I passed a little gas, I wanted to do a little dance LOL What a relief! So here I am with my little pain ball attatched to me, which I get to take out tomorrow. While typing this up I feeling pretty good about my decision now. I can't wait to hear from other folks after they get banded this month! Oh yea, by the way....In the past 2 1/2 weeks since started the pre-op diet, i have lost 25 pounds, holy smokes! I can see difference in my face already! Woooo hoooo!:)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
