Bizzare New Symptom

Recommended Posts

I need some help, especially from you experienced bandsters out there:

For the past week, later in the day, my abdominal muscles go into a major "cramp". It hurts, and feels sore and tight from the band and down the tubing (which I can feel) and down to the port in my lower abdomen. It actually pulls my abdomen out of shape, and I get large "dimples" around the band and port ends. Has anyone else experienced this??? What the

H--- is this?? Am I suddenly doing something wrong? I was banded July/07.

yes very, but I would go to the doctor ASAP. Anything that causes that type of pain, can not be good. Best of luck, I will keep you in my prayers. RLPrice, SC.

Hi Lisa,

That sounds worrisome. I was having right upper quadrant pain (which felt like twisting cramping pinching pain) and I went back to my surgeon and he went in, he found adhesions (scar tissue) and removed it all. This was 2 weeks ago. There was nothing wrong with the band itself and he didn't have to mess with it at all. Some people are prone to adhesions and they will keep coming back, others never get any adhesions at all. Keep us posted!

Hi Lisa, I am so sorry to hear you are having some complications... I am guessing that it is something like adhessions too...

Keep us posted, we care :blushing:

I went to my doctor today, and I asked him in a round about way about your problem. He stated it could be that the line that goes from the port to the band is entangled in part of your colon, that might be why you said it feels like something is pulling inside. I hope that you have already made an appointment to be checked. Keep us posted, in case we feel these symptoms likes these.

That was really nice of you, rlp. I saw Dr. Yau yesterday, and he said the same thing- that it was likely colon caught up in the band. He also said it was more likely to happen with an Inamed band, but didn't explain why this was. (He was between surgeries). I am going away tomorrow morning, with some long distance driving involved. He assured me it would be safe- that the worst thing that could happen would be that the band would pull away from the tubing, and I would feel unfilled and able to eat freely. But he said this was not dangerous to me, and he will investigate, and possibly operate, when I get back.

So, hopefully, mystery solved, and I will write again when I know more. Thanks to all for your help and well-wishes.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
