Gentle swimming????

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I'm now 15 days post op and I was wondering if anyone has been swimming yet?

I was thinking about going swimming tomorrow, as at my local pool, on wednesdays and fridays they have women only slots and I thought it would be ideal.

I am not a strong swimmer so im not talking about a zillion lengths, but I thought maybe a gentle crawl up and down a few times!!!

My stitches have been taken out now and my wounds are closed.

Do you think it is too soon?

If i do go, should i cover the wounds?

Thanks in advance

M xxx:biggrin:

Hi,

Congratulations on your band. You need to follow your surgeon's post op instructions regarding swimming. I think it is common to wait 2 weeks before getting the incisions wet in a pool, and if that is the case, then you're good to go. Swimming is fantastic exercise and I highly recommend it. I started swimming when I was 4 weeks post op and I'm up to swimming a half mile a day. You have the right idea about starting slowly at first. Good luck to you!

Kim

I was banded 22 days ago and last nite I went to the Y for about 45 min of Water walking and a lap or two. I just kept moving and doing what I could. Felt pretty good. Water helps support us so we can move more freely. Hope to get back there a few times a week. (Gotta drive a bit to get there so I can't afford to go every day.) I would say if your incisions are healing nicely, go for it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
