I was banded 7 weeks ago. 3 weeks after surgery I found out I was pregnant. It was my first pregnancy. I went to get my first fill a week later and the Doctor refused to do it, he said he couldn't induce weight loss during pregnancy. When I weighed in that day I had gained 10 lbs back from my first post-op appointment. I credited that to the pregnancy and the fact that I had little restriction right after surgery. Being pregnant, I was starving all the time (it could have been that I'm overweight and love to eat too), and I was too tired to do any exercise.

A week after that appointment I ended up having a miscarriage and am waited for an appointment for my first filling. My concern is that I haven't lost the weight that I felt that I was supposed to this far after surgery. I'm working on trying to get back to my post-op weight but it's much harder than I expected. I know that I had a special situation but I feel no restriction at all and I'm almost back to my old eating habits. Does this mean that I have stretched my pouch or made my band slip? How will I know if my band slipped? Will I see the expected weight loss once I get my first fill? HELP!! I'm so nervous that I have ruined everything I've worked so hard to get.

7_5_142.gifI am sorry to hear about your loss. As far as the eating goes it is normal to gain when your not filled...It will get better after you get filled...It will probablt take more than 1/2 fills to hit your sweet spot.. I would ask your dr. about having my band checked under fluro just to make sure there haven't been any slipage or anything. Good luck.

sdgirl25:

I'm also sorry for your loss.

You shouldn't be expected to lose weight until you start to have restriction. You probably won't have restriction until your second or third fill.

So, go get your fill and start your weight loss journey.

Best wishes.

Sue

I am so sorry for your loss ~

Don't beat yourself up for not losing "enough" weight - weight loss with the band varies a lot. I am one of the slowest losers in lap band history- or at least that is how it seems to me. I was banded October 26th, 2007 and have lost 38 pounds. My doctor is thrilled and says I am well within the normal range. You have been through a very traumatic experience, emotionally and physically. Give yourself a break. Heal from the miscarriage and then get on track. You will lose weight. It doesn't matter how quickly you lose it, you will lose it. It is easy for me to say this, and I don't always do such a good job of it, but try not to compare yourself to others on this sight because it can be very discouraging. I do it - I focus on all the people who lose 20 pounds a month and ignore the ones like me who are losing 5 pounds a month! Just do what you know you are supposed to do and the weight is going to come off.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
