Has Aldactone/Spironolactone helped?

Recommended Posts

My doctor just put me on Aldactone/Generic:Spironolactone for my facial hair growth. 200mg a day for 6 months then reduced to 100 mg a day.

I'm also taking the Norinnyl birth control pill.

Has this worked well for anyone out there? As it is a diuretic, the only thing it's been doing so far is making me pee like Seabiscuit.

I've done those laser hair removal treatments for almost 2 years now--worked on the armpits but not the facial hair (sigh).

I've been on Spironolactone for a good 12 years now. I'm not real impressed with the results. When I started the medication, the doctor told me that it would reduce my facial hair by 30%. To me, that is not enough. I've never been able to tolerate more than 100 mg a day. I use Vaniqa and shave my chin and mustache area. Total bummer. It makes me feel so unfeminine.

Hi! When I was diagnosed with PCOS in 1982, the only medication available was Spironolactone. My doctor told me that it was the recommended medication to lower the androgen levels that cause the excess hair. It also acted like a diaretic. I've taken it almost exclusively since then, and my facial hair is controlled. I take 200 mg daily. My doc told me a funny story about the medication, tho. He said it was originally formulated for men with high blood pressure. About a year after it was released, it was "redesigned", due to unforseen complications. It seems that men who were bald were regrowing hair (the good news) but they were also growing breasts!!! I haven't benefited from the boob explosion, tho! I use Vaniqua on my face and neck, and it does a good job. I wish I had a magic formula you could try, but I don't. Hope this helps...

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
