I am quitting smoking

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

Since my upcoming plastic surgery is June 15th for my extreme makeover, I have to quit smoking and be smoke free at least 4 weeks prior to surgery. So yesterday (drumroll) I did not buy a new pack of ciggies. I went from 5:00 pm yesterday until 8:00 am today without a smoke. I only have one cigarette in the pack and when this one is gone, I am going cold turkey. I have never really tried to quit seriously. I beleive for me the only way to go is cold turkey after I smoke the last one. I did buy some tablets you put under your tongue that have nicotine in them. I will only use them as a last resort. So pleeeasse, if I get bitchy over the next few days (time of the month and cessation of smoking will do this to ya...) please forgive me and dont hold it against me!!

I quit smoking about 2 years ago - and I would kill for a cigarette right now!:smoke

I really think the only thing stopping me is not wanting to have to go thru the quitting AGAIN. I used the Patches - and they really helped. I put on a fresh patch every morning BEFORE coffee (after shower) and, so far, have not committed murder or mayhem!:bandit It's gets better with time - I can go for 3-4 hours without thinking of a cigarette now;) . Seriously, I do still think of them and kinda wish I had one, but the CRAVING is gone. Good luck!

Aw right, Babs!! It will be SO worth it. And cold turkey is the way to go...just QUIT! And tell yourself, "I'm not gonna die if I don't have a cigarrette right now" until the panic stops. Like food, you will feel like youv'e lost your best friend for a short time. But you have done so well with your wieght loss, I KNOW you can do this too!

Good for you!!!

NYgirl and Rae: THat is really wonderful that you quit!!! Lets try to keep it going.

Dixie: YOu make it sound depressing! Am I gonna be craving cig's 2 years later and thinking about them every three or 4 hours? THat is really scary. Now, I am really freaked out.

I had one this morning, but so far nothing more. Like I said, I got one in the pack, but to me this is like my security blanket, so I am not gonna smoke it! LOL

I dreamed I smoked one a year after I quit, and I wanted to kick myself in the butt, but I certainly don't want to smoke them anymore.

I can't say that I never think about them, sometimes when I get mad/upset, they look good, but I wouldn't take one and I don't certainly don't crave them!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
